O: Fabric wrap not in place over the L elbow so not properly stabilizing the L ulna. Removed wrap. L ulna fracture feels much better, only a very mild ventro-dorsal movement. Took x-rays: still has a slight gap at the fracture site only visible on the skyline view, but still seeing improvement. Left out of wrap.

A: BAR. Rads show spacing over radius/ulna is closer together than normal, potentially from figure 8 wraps being tight at the wrist. L ulna appears to be closer to radius, but ulna doesn't shift when palpated. Rads also doesn't show as much callus formation as expected, ulna fracture appears to have possible non-union on skyline view. L wing joints have decent extension. Tried to leave top of figure 8 wrap looser to avoid tightness. Will need to monitor tightness of wing wraps at the carpus as bird also likes to bite and pull on wrap.

A: BAR. The wound on the dorsal wing has healed incredibly well. Very little wound care should be needed at this point. The bump on his elbow is likely caused by thumping it against the walls of his cage. The bumper should help protect it until he doesn't need the wrap anymore.

Will continue to monitor L dorsal wound site from under wing wrap.

S: Standing in incubator. Moved around trying to avoid catch. Flared slightly and clacked.

O: Took temp and pulse. Took blood from R leg. R leg also had some unabsorbed fluids (Tried to take from L leg but could not find vein. Also tried R wing, vein blew.). Did IOP study. Gave SQ fluids in R inguinal area. Gave oral meds. Collected 30g of chick scrap. HF 29g of rat. Moved out of incubator into a cage with a heating pad. Was unable to collect fecal. Try again tomorrow.

O: Dropped 33g of chick.

O: Checked vitals. Took rads. Placed L figure 8 wrap. Checked eyes and stained. Pulled oral flukes from mouth. Gave oral/IM meds and fluids. Sprayed w/ Adams. Placed back in incubator and lowered heat to 90 degrees.

A: No other fractures noted on rads aside from L ulna fracture. Concerned about possible wrist luxation around ulna. Fracture appears to be a good candidate for surgical repair. No external wounds around fracture site. Some ocular trauma present. Mentation is much improved and patient struggled a lot more. Acting visual during catch.

P: Set up vet check and schedule surgical repair. Rx tramadol tomorrow evening.

Ectoparasites: Lice and Flat flies.
Radiographic findings: Confirmed L Ulna fx.
Initial treatment: Gave 0.11cc of Torb. Put fabric wrap on L wing. Placed in incubator with oxygen.


A: Trauma likely due to vehicle collision.Guarded prognosis due to amount of trauma from vehicle collison. Has both head and ocular trauma. L ulna fx is oblique. L Ulna fx may do fine in a wrap, but may need pinning; need more radiographs to better assess. Has multiple ectoparasites; Has moderate amount of oral flukes, but low levels of flat flies and lice.

P: Pull bird out of incubator in about an hour. Take full set of rads to check placement of L ulna and wrist. Pull oral flukes. Spray with Adams. Place a figure-8 wrap on L wing. Stain eyes and check Menace. Give meloxicam, calcium slurry, and simidol. SF in PM; HF in AM if did not eat.
